Netanyahu wants your Facebook vote: Which logo should Israel use for Obama’s visit? The Prime Minister’s Office has posted on Facebook logos designed by three graphic artists for the occasion. The logo that receives the most “likes” will appear on signs, flags and official documents made out for Obama’s visit to Israel next month.

A Tel Aviv peace rally has been planned to welcome U.S. President Barack Obama to Israel next month. 

A movement called the Joint Camp plans to hold a mass peace rally in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on the day Obama arrives in Israel at the end of March. Organizers of the rally hope the president will be able to take part in the event, though his participation would require high security costs.

Obama’s candidate for U.S. defense secretary, Chuck Hagel, who was described by critics as anti-Israel, wrote in a 2008 book that Israel’s Jewish identity is a non-negotiable issue in any Mideast deal.

Hagel wrote in the book that at the core of the U.S. approach to Middle East “there will always be a special and historic bond with Israel.”

A majority of Americans believe Israel’s military action in the Gaza Strip is justified, according to a CNN poll released on Monday.

The CNN/ORC International poll indicated that 57 percent of Americans support Israel’s offensive against Hamas, while 25 percent of U.S. citizens believe Israel’s attacks on Gaza are unjustified. Read more.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with U.S. President-elect Barack Obama on Thursday evening to congratulate him on his victory in Tuesday’s election.

“This was a vote of confidence in your leadership,” Netanyahu told Obama. Netanyahu has rejected accusations that he had hurt relations with Washington through his perceived preference for defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Read more.

Nefesh B’Nefesh, an organization that encourages the immigration of Jews from North America and the United Kingdom, has come under criticism that it is an ineffective monopoly with overpaid executives.

An investigation by Haaretz shows that the organization has not been able to increase the number of new immigrants to Israel, but has done much to increase the size of the bank accounts of its directors and senior staff. Read more.

Israeli leaders hold the record for the most official visits to the United States since 1874.

According to U.S. State Department data covering the period from 1874 to the end of 2011, eighteen Israeli leaders have landed in the U.S. 106 times. Benjamin Netanyahu alone stopped by more than all of China’s leaders in the past 138 years. Read more.
